“Little Angles surf too”

1December 9th, 2012. Deportes Extremos del Estado de Colima and Fundación Doctor Ramón Navarro in coordination with the Especial Education School Hellen Keller, presented the 1st Social Surfer Event “Little Angels surf too”. It was a day full of satisfaction for everyone, where all the surfer community got together for a good cause: share our happiness”. It was also a very special day for the kids with different capabilities who spent great time in the water with the surfers and exchanged those happiness moments that the ocean provides everyday. For us it was a fulfilled dream.

When a dream comes true, it is not always a result of the effort that you put on it. Behind any dream there are always supporting people that believe in it, those are special beings that support and encourage us with their best way and solidarity. On behalf of Deportes Extremos del Estado de Colima AC we’ll like to thank all our sponsors. We are aware of all the effort you have done to support this project. Many months passed to reach this point.

We appreciate everybody’s seriousness to hear our idea and support it. We tried to answer with the same well attitude and hope you get a good impression after this 1st Social Surfer Event “Little Angles surf too”. Your support has been fundamental to succeed in this project so we want to mention all the entities and persons behind it. We have a special mention for the Official Event Sponsor: Fundación Doctor Ramón Navarro, to Rubén Álamo, Jesús Álamo, Joaquín Álamo and all the Álamo family. 2013 will be a good year; good things are coming and some changes in my personal life. I want to grow in every aspect, as a professional and as a professionist, to grow as a son to become a better father. I want to learn to see things in different ways and laugh of what once disappointed me. To know more places of this planet, fish more and for sure enjoy many mornings and afternoons surfing… that is the best that could have happened in my life.

4Brian Toth
Oakley Rider, Puerto Rico
To qualify to the top 34 of the ASP. To keep a good physical condition and achieve important victories for my country and for Latin America.

5Adrián Rodríguez
Channel Islands Rider, Sayulita
Among other things, to sign a sponsorship contract with Vans Mexico for this year. Also, to follow a strict schedule of WQS events to improve my ranking and my image nationally and internationally.

 Jair Pérez Quiroz

To attend the most possible WQS events and most of the ALAS events in Latin America so I can get more experience for my surfing and learn much more. The more experience, the more motivation; you learn to appreciate what you have and the privilege of being a Pro Surfer.

Volunteer lifeguards in playa bonfil, Acapulco

1Enthusiastic surfers, Alfredo V. Bonfil beach locals, have gathered to offer a social service to this neighborhood and its tourists. Bonfil beach has great waves to practice surf and every year hosts thousands of tourists.

Precisely in this December holiday season is when more tourists enjoy the warm water, sun, rides, surf lessons and of course, the food.
Here, the traditional gastronomical event of Pescado a la Talla takes place every year where everybody can enjoy this delicacy for free at several restaurants.

Now, the tourists are safer with the service provided by the volunteer surfer lifeguards. They will patrol all the beaches taking care and guaranteeing the integrity of all tourists: international, national and locals.

If you visit Bonfil Beach in this season or any other beach as Revolcadero or Princess, pay attention and obey the signals as well as the recommendations from the lifeguards that are well trained, and as they surf everyday, they have an extraordinary physical condition and they know the currents of open waters and are always ready for any contingency. By the way, as they are volunteers, they don’t get a salary but if you wish you can help them with some gratification.

Parkinson sealed the season with victory at Billabong Pipe Masters, and winning the World Title

1Joel Parkinson (AUS), 31, achieved his first ASP World Title at the final stop of the 2012 ASP World Championship Tour WCT by winning the Billabong Pipe Masters in memoriam of Andy Irons The Billabong Pipe Masters was also the final and last stop of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing.

Only Parkinson and the 11 times World Champion, Kelly Slater (EUA) has a possibility to win the World title in the last event. Parkinson needed to finish I a higher position than Slater to claim the title that was refused for 12 years. When Slater lost to Josh Kerr (AUS), 28, at the semifinals, his dream became true. Parkinson defeated Kerr at the final.

“Consistency paid”, Joel Parkinson said. “Here is where I wanted to be standing at the end of the year. This is for I’ve been working all my life. I can’t describe the feeling. I’ve had sub-championships, ups and downs. I’ve been in hell and back and this way it’s sweeter. All my love to Hawaii, Australia and the world, I can’t be thankful enough for supporting me.

“At this moment, Pipe Masters world title, everything is surreal” Parkinson said. “I thought it was going to be a pressure pot as previous years. I knew I couldn’t do anything to change it. I did what I had to do. I though that Slater had given his best after competing against Shane (Dorian) and I knew Kerr was a danger for him.  When Kerr won, I felt I was going to fade. I couldn’t control my emotions at that moment”.

“One day you wake up feeling good and the next one you wake up feeling like a looser. This morning I felt like a champion when I woke up. As Andy (Irons) always said “I have this, eh?” I dedicate this to my family, to mi father that took me to the tournaments when I was 10. To my wife, my mother and kids, this is everything to us” Parkinson said.

Parkinson has been Honor World Title 4 times (2002, 2004, 2009, 2011). His victory at Billabong Pipe Masters is his eleventh elite triumph during his career and by achieving the ASP World Title is recognized as one of the greatest surfers of all times.
