The voices and demands continue to grow louder... “No harbor in Punta Colorada Beach!”

The surfing community of Puerto Escondido and other organizations have banded together with the task of stopping this atrocity from happening at the world-renown beach, famous for its hollow waves that are especially good for bodyboarding.

Puerto Escondido is known throughout the world for its good waves and Zicatela Beach (a.k.a. “the Mexican pipeline”) is considered the third best tube in the world. In the state of Oaxaca, there are plenty of beaches with different types of waves for surfing and Punta Colorada itself has been the site of many national and international surfing events.

The huge economic impact left by the thousands of tourists who come in search of these waves is staggering and it’s hard to believe that the government itself wishes to build a harbor in Punta Colorada beach.

Aside from the sporting tourism that would be affected, Punta Colorada beach has terrestrial species that would suffer substantial environmental impacts, which would completely change the ecosystem that they’re accustomed to. The creation of this marina would also bring with it heavy boat traffic that consumes oil and gas and produces gaseous pollutants that will contaminate the ocean and air.

The community is organizing marches and sit-ins to gain awareness and protect the ecosystem from the construction of the harbor.

We can show our support from all over the world by visiting this website and signing the petition:
