DILLON PERILLO WINS THE 6-STAR ASP LOS CABOS OPEN OF SURF
Zippers Beach, Los Cabos, Southern Baja California, Mexico—After taking a break from competing and only doing “free surf”, American surfer Dillon Perillo (a prominent figure in the ASP Pro Junior Series some years ago), returned to the competitions this year and came back strong, winning his first 6-Star event, at the well-known Zippers beach in Los Cabos.
At 23 years old, Dillon achieved one of his dreams, winning a stop on the ASP tour—the Los Cabos Open of Surf...
“I don’t know what to say,” Perillo remarked. “Mexico is one of my favorite places in the world. I’ve been coming here with my dad since I was a kid. This was a good contest... I was really nervous the whole time; during the final I kept telling myself, Keep calm, keep calm and try to breathe and relax.”
With three-foot waves to contend with, Dillon faced Beyrick De Vries from South Africa in the final. Dillon advanced immediately, achieving an 8.67 and 8.47 for a mixture of maneuvers in the Zippers right break. On his second wave, Dillon got a 9.57, the highest score for a single wave in the whole event, solidifying his victory with a total of 18.24 points against the 13.84 points of De Vries.
“I feel confident and happy. I didn’t have a good start on my competitions this year, but achieving this gives me confidence for my next events, Acapulco and El Salvador. I hope to do well in both.”
