TRUJILLO, CADENA AND HERNANDEZ GAIN THEIR PASS TO 4-STAR ASP SURF OPEN ACAPULCO
The Trials wrapped up under decent wave conditions and awarded its winners an entry into the 4-Star event of the ASP circuit, the SURF OPEN ACAPULCO, which is currently being held from July 2nd – 7th on the same beach as the Trials, Playa Revolcadero.
Interesting and very exciting duels developed at Playa Revolcadero. In the quarterfinals, Adrian “Gatito” Rodriguez from Nayarit went head-to-head with Luis Rey Hernandez, the 14-year old surfer from Guerrero. Rodriguez was ahead in points but near the end of the heat, Hernandez caught a tube and managed to come out clean and performed two additional tricks, sending Rodriguez on his way.
In the first final, Luis Rey Hernandez faced Oscar “Pawi” Chino as both locals fought for their pass to the SURF OPEN ACAPULCO. Once again, “Pawi” drew from his experience and stayed high in the scores but surprise! Hernandez caught a left wave, entered the tube and managed a clean exit, upping his points.
Luis Rey Hernandez will be the youngest competitor to participate in the ASP SURF OPEN ACAPULCO, along with Yoni Corzo, who is 15 years old.
In the other final, the two opponents, local Jose Manuel “Yuco” Trujillo and Diego Cadena from Nayarit, already had their entry into the Open but competed to determine the Champion of the Trial.
