The first Tag Team Sayulita was held in Sayulita this past Saturday, with an excellent response from the surfing and stand up paddle community. The event was a response from Sayulita Surf Club to a proposal made by Mexican longboarder, Israel Preciado, to hold a relay competition at the Sayulita Festival.

The event was conducted with the participation of about twelve teams, composed of four competitors chosen at random in a previous drawing.

The waves at Sayulita reached about one meter and the beach was packed with competitors, family members and friends who enjoyed and supported this unique event.

Competitors from all over the world, including those from Chile, Canada, the United States, England, France and, of course, Mexico, gathered on the beach, waxing their SUP boards, shortboards, longboards and Softop boards (the official boards of the event).

The teams all wore a shirt with a number on it that was assigned to each team. The first competitor catches a wave, and then hits the hand of their next teammate (Tag Team), giving the green light to catch the next wave. All of this takes place in heats that last a total of thirty minutes.

The teams were composed of competitors that ranged in age from six to forty-five years old.

A few of the first Tag Team participants included:

Jose Manuel Ticus, Diego Cadena, Dylan Southworth, Diego Mignot, Nome Mignot, Marcos Mignot, Karen Jacobson, Kalle Carranza, Eño James, Ori Icaza, Risa Mara Machuca, Javier “El Bicho” Jimenez, Sergio Gonzalez, Patricio Gonzalez, Ulises Gonzalez, Saul Pato Cadena, Leila Takeda, Isidro Rodriguez, Ryan Helm and Enzo, the youngest.

Champion Team:
- OLIVER CRUZ
- OSMAR PEREZ
- JOSE MANUEL TICUS
