Playa Carizalillo

3

Playa Carrizalillo is located west of Puerto Escondido by taking the coastal Pacific highway towards the International Airport, approximately 500 meters from the municipal agency of this port. Or, if you prefer, you can also hire a taxi to get to this favorite beach amongst the local community.

Something that draws a lot of attention to this beach is that it features a fresh water pool just 5 meters from the ocean. Thanks to the abundance of fresh water, almond trees stand tall, green and majestic along the shore. The sand is fine and white in color and the water is a blue-green hue that is clear, warm and shallow. It has a beautiful background of rocks that provide for good snorkeling and swimming. Another attraction is the family of sea turtles that live nearby.

This beach generally has gentle waves, but the final part of the beach that opens to the sea generates right and left waves that are perfect for surf classes and for those who are beginners in this sport. The waves are also ideal for anyone who wants to show off because the wave conditions have little current and aren’t very strong, therefore, there’s no danger in wiping out. During bigger swells, perfect left and right tubes form and are considered a super fun wave. Angelo Lozano fondly remembers being taken there as a kid and catching one of his biggest waves during his start as a surfer.

It is also worth noting that this beach is approximately 140 meters long by 30 meters wide. Also, to get down to this beach, you must walk down 168 steps, which, if you walk down during the rainy season, you can spot tons of purple and red crabs climbing along the rocks.
